Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez is now facing a felony charge of battery involving serious bodily injury in addition to the misdemeanor charges stemming from a weekend incident in Indianapolis that led to his arrest. Marion County prosecutor Ryan Mears made the announcement about the new charge, which carries a potential sentence of one to six years in prison. Sanchez was pepper-sprayed and stabbed multiple times during the altercation, according to court records filed Sunday. A police affidavit alleges that Sanchez, smelling of alcohol, accosted a 69-year-old truck driver who backed into a hotel鈥檚 loading docks, leading to a confrontation outside the vehicle that prompted the driver to pull out a knife to defend himself.

Lawyers for music mogul Sean 鈥淒iddy鈥 Combs are urging a judge to sentence him early next month to no more than 14 months in prison for his conviction on two prostitution-related charges. The lawyers made their arguments Monday in a written submission to a New York federal Judge Arun Subramanian. He's already rejected bail for Combs, signaling that he believes he must serve more time behind bars despite being exonerated in July of the more serious racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges. Prosecutors, who will submit their recommendations prior to the Oct. 3 sentencing, have already said they'll urge Combs stay imprisoned substantially longer than the four to five years they originally thought.
