SUN PRAIRIE 鈥 Miraculous, improbable and outstanding can be used to describe Milton鈥檚 fourth-quarter comeback against Sun Prairie East in a Badger Large Conference football game Friday night.
In a back-and-forth entertaining game, the Red Hawks scored 15 unanswered points in the final 3 minutes, 25 seconds to leave Bank of Sun Prairie Stadium with a 32-28 victory.

Down, 28-17 from the 20, Milton, with two timeouts remaining, Red Hawk quarterback Jake Cummins found Lucas Weinert for gains of 25 and 20. Cummins then scrambled for 20 yards and got out of bounds. With 2 minutes, 16 seconds left, Cummins found senior wide receiver Carson Biddick for an eight-yard touchdown. The senior duo linked up on the following two-point conversion and Milton trailed 28-25.
The Red Hawks (7-1 overall, 5-1 Badger Large) recovered an ensuing onside kick and with 2 minutes, 14 seconds to play from the 50, Cummins connected with Biddick for a 25-yard gain, Max Grady for another 11 and Biddick from 14 yards out for the go-ahead score with one minute, eight seconds left.
Sun Prairie East (4-4, 3-3) would not go quietly and drove to Milton鈥檚 8-yard line but an interception by Carter Thompson sealed the game.
鈥淭here was no doubt in mind,鈥 said Grady, who recorded 73 of his 80 receiving yards in the second half. 鈥淓very mistake was an opportunity to get better.鈥

A 95-yard punt return by senior Marcus Rowe gave the Cardinals a 21-17 lead. The Red Hawks didn鈥檛 convert a first down on the ensuing drive and punted away in their own territory. Hampered by the 7-yard punt, the Cardinals capitalized with an 18-yard touchdown pass to lead 28-17.
鈥淲e (had) to make it a one-possession game, 鈥 Milton coach Dan Prahl said of the late rally. 鈥淲e have great skill, Biddick, Max, Gavin Cole, Lucas Weinert had some great catches down the road. So, I鈥檓 proud of our guys. And Jake, Jake鈥檚 so tough.鈥
Cummins threw 30 passes, for 193 yards. He also had two rushing touchdowns, one of which saw him traverse 60 yards for Milton鈥檚 opening score.
鈥淚t was a rollercoaster up-and-down,鈥 Biddick said, who recovered the onside kick. 鈥淭here were times where we didn鈥檛 think we were going to come back, but the onside kick boosted our momentum.鈥
That was one of several big plays Weinert had. The senior do-it-all player knocked through a 35-yard kick.
The visiting Red Hawks (7-1 overall, 5-1 conference) will have a chance to compete with Waunakee on Friday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. for a share of the Badger Large Conference championship.
